Michael McNab

Michael McNab is a percussionist and electro-acoustic musician from Melbourne, Australia.

Listening with an unfixed body and open eyes, Michael’s kinetic interactions with collaborators, objects and site form the material of his work. He is interested in human and non-human activities as impetuses for sound making, and in spatiality and anti-virtuosity as ways to shake up audience-performer relationships.

Alongside numerous collaborations, Michael makes solo and participatory percussion performances, modifying, deconstructing and spatialising different parts of the drumset and combining them with polystyrene, found objects, motors and transducers to build abstract sound worlds

He also makes surrealist collage-based electronic music and experimental performance under the alias ‘Wumpy’.
