Denis Sorokin

Denis Sorokin is a musician from Saint-Petersburg, Russia.

He is educated as a classical and a jazz guitarist. He mostly performs music of composers from Wandelweiser, and his own transcriptions for guitar of compositions of John Cage, Morton Feldman, Galina Ustvolskaya and other composers.

As an improviser, he plays experimental electronic music using no-input effects, prepared guitar and objects. Nowadays, he has started to use the ukulele, pitch pipes, cornet and voice.

Records released on different record labels such as Intonema (Russia), Ftarri (Japan), Wandelweiser Edition (Germany), Creative Sources (Portugal), NCTMMRN (Australia), Poverty Electronics (USA), pan y rosas discos (USA), Linear Obsessional (UK), b-boim (Austria) and others.

As an artist, he works in abstract painting, drawing, photo, installation and performance. Also makes artwork for covers of musical albums as such as British record label Another Timbre, which is releasing a new academic and improvised music.

Denis is participating in festivals of new music, including such as Sound Ways, Fin de siecle, Open Look, APosotion, Museum’s Night, Teni Zvuka and others. Among the art projects – audiovisual installations and performances for loft Rizzordi, Museum of Nonconformist Art, New Alexandrinsky Theatre, Manifesta 10, Experimental Sound Gallery.
